In this book, he spent a long time photographing people gathered in streets, squares, festivals, and events.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe countless people filling the frame appear as a single group, yet each is also an individual with different postures and expressions. The title \"Suna\" (Sand) refers to the uncountable crowds and the gaze that seeks to capture each individual within them.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTowards the end of the book, there are photographs of crowds that appeared around the Imperial Palace during Emperor Showa's deteriorating health and subsequent demise. Tsuchida noted that he encountered the crowds he had been searching for for many years, seeing them as a human wave emerging from cracks in the concrete and eventually disappearing back into the earth.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis book was compiled by questioning the distance between an interest in crowds as a subject and the act of fixing them in photographs as his own personal issue.
