About Bunbuku
BUNBUKU is an online bookstore based in Tokyo. We offer both new and used books, with a focus on photobooks, art books, books on craft and folk art, zines, and exhibition catalogs.
Our Point of View
Bringing Books and People a Little Closer
Each book is selected and introduced one by one by the owner, with the feeling that it is something worth keeping in circulation.
Our selection includes not only works by well-known photographers and artists, but also small-run self-published books, regional booklets, long out-of-print titles, and ephemera that may seem as modest as a scrap of paper. Rather than limiting ourselves by genre or period, we value the atmosphere and tactile presence each book carries.
Alongside books from Japan, we also carry publications by overseas publishers and artists. Drawing on our own experience in making and publishing, we hope to be a bookstore where the distance between books and people feels a little closer.

Name
About the Name Bunbuku
The name “Bunbuku” comes from the old Japanese folk tale Bunbuku Chagama.
I chose the name because I like the sense of wonder and familiarity that can dwell in old tools and everyday objects. I feel that books, too, carry time and memory as they pass from one person to another.
