Hiroshi Sugimoto (1948-)

Born in Tokyo in 1948.

A photographer and contemporary artist based in New York.

He creates works from a unique perspective, focusing on themes such as human perception and the concept of time. He has produced many internationally acclaimed works, including "Theatre," in which he used long exposures to burn movie theater screens white, and "Seascapes," in which he photographed oceans around the world.

He received the Hasselblad International Photography Award in 2001 and the Praemium Imperiale in 2009.
