"Dreams Woven in Prints: The Trajectory of the Creative Print Movement Engraved in Utsunomiya" is the exhibition catalog for the exhibition of the same name held at the Utsunomiya Museum of Art in 2000. It traces the Creative Print (Sosaku Hanga) movement that unfolded in Utsunomiya from the late Taisho to the early Showa period, focusing primarily on the print journals "Mura no Hanga" and "Katana."

"Mura no Hanga" was started in 1925 by elementary school teachers in the former Sugata-gawa village, while "Katana" was founded in 1928 by students of the former Utsunomiya Middle School. Sumio Kawakami consistently published his work in both journals, serving as a figure who connected printmakers in the region. This exhibition introduces nearly the entirety of both publications and also examines print journals published across Japan, investigating the network of Creative Print artists that linked these various regions.

The catalog includes plates from "Mura no Hanga" and "Katana," as well as essays on Sumio Kawakami’s woodblock print expression, the genealogy of Creative Print journals, and the relationship between print journals, readers, and popular education. It also features a chronology related to Creative Prints, artist biographies, and a list of works. Attention is also given to the production of prints within school education and the exchanges between artists and enthusiasts formed through regional print journals.

An exhibition catalog that positions the print activities born in the single region of Utsunomiya within the broader current of the Creative Print movement that spread across Japan.
