A special issue on Tomi Ungerer published by Seibundo Shinkosha in 1967.
This book, compiled as part of the IDEA special edition series, sheds light on Ungerer's cynical and dark side. It includes a wide range of works, from his signature works "Kriktor" and "Underground Sketchbook" to his ironic portrait series of politicians and socialites, his work for advertising and picture books, and three-dimensional works such as toys and montages.
There are many valuable illustrations, including portraits of him in his younger days and strange objects made from everyday items.
The illustrations are mostly in black and white, with some color pages.
At the end of the book is "A Conversation with Tomi Ungerer" by Nishio Tadahisa.

Jean-Thomas Ungerer / Tomi Ungerer (November 28, 1931 – February 9, 2019)

Born in Strasbourg, Alsace, France in 1931. Children's literature author and illustrator.
The loss of his father at a young age and the experience of his hometown Alsace becoming German territory during World War II had a major influence on his subsequent creative endeavors.

He moved to the United States in 1956 and began working as a picture book author. He established international acclaim for his humorous and allegorical works, such as "The Three Wonderful Men," "The Moon Man," "Geralda and the Ogre," and "Cricker the Snake." He also published works for adults, such as "The Underground Sketchbook" and "Fornicon." He is also known for his sharp social satire, such as his posters opposing racism and the Vietnam War.

He received the Hans Christian Andersen Award for Illustration in 1998. He spent his later years based in Ireland and passed away in Cork on February 9, 2019, at the age of 87. He is considered one of the most representative illustrators of the 20th century, and worked across a wide range of genres, from children's literature to political satire and erotic art.
