A photo collection capturing precious moments from everyday life, enveloped in soft light.
The collection includes works taken both domestically and internationally over a period of approximately 10 years.
Kawauchi uses a medium-format camera (Rolleiflex) and takes pictures by looking down at the subject from chest-height.
This unique style creates a soft, slightly bird's-eye view angle.
Also, by opening the aperture wide, the light spreads out as if melting, creating a delicate texture that is reminiscent of being in a dream.
And the greatest feature of this book lies in its photographic composition (sequence).
The flow of light and air, the wavering of memories, gently connect across pages.
By connecting each individual piece, a story that transcends words emerges.
The stories that Kawauchi weaves are unparalleled—the rhythm and tranquility that only she can create fill the entire work.
Published in the US by Aperture in 2011, it was released in Japan as a foil-printed edition.
This is the representative work that determined the worldview of Rinko Kawai.
