TOKYO is a photobook by photographer Yasutaka Kojima featuring color photographs taken in Tokyo between 2008 and 2014. It was published by Sōkyūsha in 2015 in a limited edition of 600 copies. The book compiles urban landscapes of Tokyo captured while Kojima was based in New York, traveling back and forth between Japan and the United States.
Kojima photographed the human-made and constantly changing cityscape of Tokyo, including building facades, utility poles and power lines, densely packed housing, and layered clusters of buildings. He captured the complex, intricate structure of the city through compositions that emphasize the forms, colors, and overlapping lines of the architecture.
This is Sōkyūsha’s second publication following the monochrome photobook New York, published in 2014. In this volume, color photographs reveal the details of the city and the relationships between buildings, depicting the visual order and chaos hidden within everyday scenes.
Contains 60 photographs across 64 pages. Fabric-bound hardcover, limited edition of 600 copies.
A book that examines the rapidly transforming city of Tokyo from the perspectives of both urban structure and visual form.
