(German) Twilight of Humanity – Brücke und Lebensreform

This exhibition catalog focuses on the relationship between "Die Brücke," a group of artists representing German Expressionism, and the Lebensreform, a lifestyle reform movement that spread in Germany in the early 20th century.

Under the symbolic title "Twilight of Humanity (Menschheitsdämmerung)," this exhibition examines from various angles how Brücke artists such as Kirchner, Haeckel, and Schmidt-Rottluff were influenced by social ideas of the time, such as a return to nature, bodily liberation, and ideas of community, and how they sublimated these ideas into their works.

Through paintings, prints, drawings, photographs, and documents, this book highlights the intersection of art and thought that explored a critical spirit toward modern urban civilization and new ways of life.
