Following in the footsteps of his grandfather Nathan and father Georges, he expanded the Wildenstein Gallery.

Highly acclaimed academically, the organization has systematically published catalogues raisonnés of works by Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Paul Gauguin, and others, with Monet: Catalogue Raisonné in particular being internationally recognized as the definitive edition.

Claude Monet 1840–1926

A painter born in Paris, France.
He was one of the founders of Impressionism and is also known for his masterpiece, Impression, Sunrise (1872), which gave rise to the term "Impressionism."
At a young age, he met the landscape painter Boudin and learned the technique of plein air (en plein air), which involves painting outdoors under natural light. From then on, he continued to paint series such as "Haystacks," "Rouen Cathedral," and "Water Lilies," depicting the same motif at different times and seasons, with the theme of the changes in light and atmosphere throughout his life.

In his later years, he established a home and garden in Giverny, where he repeatedly painted water lilies floating in ponds and arched bridges. His late masterpiece, Water Lilies, which took on an abstract quality, had a major influence on 20th-century painting.
As a symbol of Impressionism, he was a painter who established the starting point of modern painting.
