"PASTIME PARADISE" is a photo book that compiles the photographs Yurie Nagashima took over a period of approximately eight years, from 1992 to 2000.
The book is permeated with the artist's perspective on "the self," including nude portraits of her family, self-portraits, and records of everyday life and youth culture from her time studying in the United States. It explores the possibilities of what can be told through photography, blurring the boundaries between subject and photographer, self and others, and private and public.
This is a pioneering work in Japanese photography of the 1990s that captures the body and relationships from a woman's perspective, and is one of Nagashima's early representative works, as well as an important photo book for understanding her subsequent activities.
