In the unknown world of "underwater," there are so many things that make you wonder, "Why?" Their colors, faces, shapes... The more you look at them, the closer you get, the more you realize they are all masterpieces in terms of color and design. It seems that not many people know that their unique paradise lies in such shallow waters, only a few dozen centimeters to 1-2 meters deep. I photographed these underwater actors, who are usually out of sight or who people tend to overlook, while taking care to make the most of their environment. _____From the afterword

Nakamura Ikuo (1945-)

Born on July 1, 1945 in Showa-cho, Akita Prefecture (now Katagami City).
He moved to Tokyo in 1963 and got a job at an electronics store, but quit after one year.
In 1965, he taught himself diving and underwater photography.
Using his extensive experience in reporting, he conveys the charm of the ocean and the activities of people around it through a variety of media, including newspapers, television, radio and lectures.

In 1994, he won the 9th Agency for Cultural Affairs Art Award for the NHK radio documentary "Requiem for the Souls of Okushiri: Testimony of Underwater Photographer Nakamura Yukio."
In 1996, he received the 12th Higashikawa Award Special Prize for "The Sea of Kamui" (Asahi Shimbun, 1995).
