"Collapsible" by Per Mollerup. This design book explores and classifies the mechanisms of tools and furniture that possess "variable and storable structures"—those that can be folded, compressed, stacked, rolled, or inflated.

In this book, Mollerup presents "collapsible" not merely as an adjective, but as a category referring to objects themselves that expand for use and fold down for storage. By viewing "collapsibility" as a fundamental design principle shared by various everyday tools—such as telescopes, umbrellas, newspapers, blinds, furniture, and strollers—he examines the ability to adjust, transform, and adapt to space as a core mechanism supporting human life.

The book is organized by method of transformation, including Folding, Creasing, Bellows, Assembling, Hinging, Rolling, Sliding, Nesting, Inflation, Fanning, and Concertina. The latter half focuses on furniture, such as Stools, Chairs, Beds, Sofabeds and Sofas, Tables, and Storage Furniture, showcasing numerous examples to demonstrate how each structure saves space and toggles between states of use and storage.

A notable feature of this book is that it is not intended as an exhaustive reference collection, but rather as a curated selection of examples chosen for the ingenuity of their concepts and structures. By looking cross-sectionally at the relationships between space-saving, function, structure, and form, the book serves not only to categorize existing products but also to inspire new design ideas.
