Peter Doig (Peter Doig) 1959-
Born on April 17, 1959, in Edinburgh, Scotland.
He spent his childhood in Trinidad and Tobago and his youth in Canada. After studying at art schools in London, he established an international reputation as a leading painter of "new figuration" from the 1990s onward.
Known for his mystical and dreamlike landscapes and figures based on diverse images from photographs, films, and memories, his style has been described as "magical realism." He was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1994 and received the Wolfgang Hahn Prize in 2008.
Since the 2000s, he has been active in Trinidad and Tobago and London, holding solo exhibitions worldwide at venues such as the Tate Britain, the Fondation Beyeler, and the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo.
He is highly regarded as one of the leading artists in contemporary painting.
