A collection of works by London-based artists Adam Bloomberg and Oliver Chanarin was created using cutting-edge facial recognition systems developed by the Russian government.
The collection includes portraits of members of the Russian punk rock group Pussy Riot and Moscow residents. However, these are not ordinary photographs, but rather 3D digital life masks. The system can automatically generate full-face portraits of people's faces without their consent.
The technology was developed for facial recognition in public places such as subways and stadiums, or to photograph people who don't want their picture taken.
Following the example of photographer August Sander's work Men of the 20th Century, the artist categorizes the subjects by occupation.
However, this portrait has low resolution and is characterized by its focus on accurately recognizing facial features and creating 3D images rather than capturing human individuality.
