Good friends

Tateno Michimasa's children's book "Nakayoshi" is a 12-page booklet published by Kinransha on November 30, 1947 (Showa 22). Tateno, who had created many illustrations for children's books and fairy tales since before the war, released this book shortly after the war.

Since the 1920s, Tateno illustrated children's books, participating in "Kagaku Bun'ei Jidō Tokuhon," "Hiragana Grimm," and "Bazoku no Uta." From the 1930s to the 1940s, he also provided illustrations for many children's books such as "Hinomaru Dōwa," "Oyayubi Hime," "Kuma-chan no Nikki," "Kogane no Fune," and "Yama no Dōbutsu."

After the war, he published "Dōbutsu Ebanashi," "Go Hiki no Tanuki," "Karasu no Tanemaki," "Boku no Mita Yume," "Usakichi no Nikki," "Neko-chan," and "Minna Shinsetsu." This book, "Nakayoshi," is also one of his works from that period.

Tateno Michimasa (1894–1948)

Born on August 20, 1894 (Meiji 27) in Yono-machi, Saitama Prefecture. Children's book and illustration artist. Died on December 24, 1948 (Showa 23).

From the 1920s, he created numerous illustrations for children's books, fairy tales, and stories. He participated in Kikuchi Tomoo's "Kagaku Bun'ei Jidō Tokuhon," Otaguro Katsuhiko's "Hiragana Grimm," and Arimoto Yoshisui's "Bazoku no Uta." From the 1930s to the 1940s, he continued to provide illustrations for children's books published by Kodansha, Heibonsha, Shogakukan, Kinransha, and others.

His major works include "Oyayubi Hime," "Kuma-chan no Nikki," "Kogane no Fune," and "Yama no Dōbutsu." After the war, he also published "Dōbutsu Ebanashi," "Nakayoshi," "Usakichi no Nikki," "Neko-chan," "Boku no Mita Yume," and "Minna Shinsetsu," which he both wrote and illustrated.

In 2012, his original artwork for "Oyayubi Hime" was exhibited at the Kodansha Noma Memorial Museum's "Early Showa Period Kodansha Picture Book Original Art Exhibition."
