A collection of works by Miyuki Tsugami titled "View of Time: Connecting, Accumulating." This volume features sketches and notes made while traveling to various locations from 2013 to 2016, alongside the landscape paintings created based on them.
Since around 1997, Tsugami has consistently produced landscape paintings she calls "View." This book includes sketches drawn in places such as the Hiruzen Highlands, London, the River Thames, Grasmere, Edinburgh, Prenzlau (Germany), and Osaka, as well as the canvas works that emerged from them. The structure follows the process by which fragments of scenery encountered during travels transform into paintings over time.
By juxtaposing the traces of landscapes and words accumulated in her sketchbooks with the finished paintings, the book illustrates Tsugami's creative method: rather than merely reproducing a single location, she reconstructs it through memory and the passage of time. Readers can observe the relationship between the landscape paintings, with their unique colors and brushwork, and the sketches that serve as their starting points.
The book features an eight-fold, full-scale gatefold of a sketchbook and employs an exposed spine binding to allow the book to lay flat easily. This collection was published in conjunction with her 2016 solo exhibitions, "View of Time: Connecting" and "View of Time: Accumulating."
