The rapidly changing city, and the people who continue to live their lives unchanged.

This photo collection features photographs taken by photographer An Chao-fan, who visited his small hometown in China for the first time in four years, walking through the streets and villages, superimposing memories and reality.
While high-rise buildings and bullet train stations sprang up as a result of the Beijing Olympics, the countryside still retained the charm of red brick houses, mosques, and the daily lives of its people.
Born into a Hui family, a minority ethnic group that practices Islam, Awa recalls her childhood memories through the sight of relatives gathering on the anniversary of a death.
Even though the cityscape changes, people's lives remain the same—that realization leads to a new connection with one's hometown.
